Death Of Guitar Pop

Taking Off With Spitfire - Showcasing Local Talent from the South Holland area

Many moons ago (1979 to be precise) a gang of spotty, skinny, working class herberts in smart suits, hailing from Camden Town, skanked their way through a head turning, debut Top of The Pops performance of their seminal 2 Tone Records release “The Prince”

Madness had paid homage to their (now late) great hero Prince Buster (one of the true pioneers of Ska) and Camden Town had culture clashed with Kingston Town (the birthplace of Ska in the late 1950’s) to create a beautiful noise and a strikingly sharp image that would become more famously known as 2 Tone. Along with 2 Tone label creator Jerry Dammers’s band The Specials, The Beat, The Selecter, Bad Manners and The Bodysnatchers,This collection of disillusioned British youth’s channeled their pent up energy into musical outlets creating the now legendary, 2nd wave of Ska.

Wind the clock forward to 1992 (the 3rd wave of ska is now being spearheaded Stateside) and in the quiet British middle class suburb of Brentwood Essex, a 5 year old Oliver Hookings (now better known as “Silky”) is gifted a VHS by his old man titled “Divine Madness” (a collection of the music videos that accompany the band’s greatest hits.) He’s instantly hooked, telling his old man “When I grow up I wanna be a pop star like Suggs.”

Sons Of Liberty

Taking Off With Spitfire - Showcasing Local Talent from the South Holland area

Rocking stages since 2014 Sons of Liberty are the UK's hardest working and most entertaining Southern Rockers!....a band of seasoned musicians from Bristol and South Wales. We were drawn together by our shared love of the incredible music of the Southern States of America....and our desire to share this with the people of the UK. An energetic band who deliver an authentic and fresh show based on professional musical ability.

After 4 years of building a solid reputation as an all southern rock covers band.... In 2017 we decided to step things up and set out to write and record some original material in order to reach a wider audience and to vent some pent up creativity! The result was the highly acclaimed ....Shinola EP.... 5 tracks of homeground hard hitting southern rock'n'roll. Tracks are featured regularly on Rock Radio stations such as Hard Rock Hell Radio.... there is plenty more in the tank too! The follow up 'Aged in Oak' was released September 2018, featuring the single 'Damned If You Do'....and has taken it all up a notch or two!

The Bad Somethings

Taking Off With Spitfire - Showcasing Local Talent from the South Holland area

With influences from the 70's and 80's greats, The Bad Somethings forge ahead with their classic style hard rock sounds. Growing up listening to such albums as KISS Alive!, Dream Police, Highway To Hell and Pyromania, you can totally get the understanding where the band comes from and what their style of gritty rock and roll is all about.

The duo of Kenny Richie and Leo Davidson put The Bad Somethings idea into motion in late 2016. Taking their influences and expanding on the ideas and styles of rock they grew up with. "We're not re-inventing the wheel and we're not taking it too seriously either," states Kenny. It's a fun venture to write and record in the old styles we've always loved. We know there are lots of fans who still enjoy our style of rock and we're out to bring them some new music they can enjoy when they are tired of their old favorites!"
