This weeks show features three different great acts, so there is bound to be something new for you to discover! You will be able to hear a little bit from a Spitfire regular, Hull based Jerry Hull (the name is pure coincidence!), the French Stereo In Solo, and finally Croation Seven And Counting.

Jerry Hull

Jerry Hull with Strange Afternoons on Taking Off With Spitfire - Showcasing Local Talent from the South Holland area

A Spitfire favourite, Jerry’s music encompasses a wide variety of genres such as pop, rock, blues, boogie-woogie, Americana, gospel, country, medieval, jazz, ragtime, orchestral, romantic and that classic Memphis sound.

This week you will be able to hear material from Jerry's newly released album Strange Afternoons, including singles Periscope Down and Dreamscapes Like Magic. Visit his artist profile page to buy them today!

Since April 2015, Jerry has released 37 singles (including some album tracks, 11 videos, as well as 5 albums. His debut “Heaven Help Me” was released in July 2015, and a sixth album is due for release in May 2018.

Music reviewers and fans have often said that my style is similar to Elton John, Billy Joel, Burt Bacharach, and Todd Rundgren both musically and vocally, but with my own original style emerging. My style is also impacted from being brought up in the mid-south of the United States and certainly from being born and raised in Memphis (Tennessee). After living and gigging from Memphis to Los Angeles, the mid-west USA, and Toronto for 24 years, I am now settled in East Yorkshire. My life’s experiences and present surroundings have most definitely also played an additional role on the style of my recent writing activity. I have never been so prolific as I am now in my entire life – within the last 3 years producing over 300 songs!

Stereo In Solo

Stereo In Solo on Taking Off With Spitfire - Showcasing Local Talent from the South Holland area

Stereo In Solo, is an exciting new project from Thierry Noritop (one of the two members of the band STEREO a French group who released in 1982 the cult song Somewhere in the night). Born in Paris, Thierry is quite the musician, playing both the guitar and keyboard, as well as programming and arranging his own music.

“I had been thinking about this solo album for a long time but I was wondering about the quality of my voice and I was also a little apprehensive about writing the lyrics because English is not my mother tongue,” says Noritop. “STEREO is the band I did with Bernie Adam in the ‘80s… then our return in 2014 for the release of the album “Back to somewhere”, following the release on Minimal Wave records of our work in the 80s. I wanted to keep this name STEREO which represents an important part of my life and add this “in solo”. I wanted to take STEREO in MONO but the name was already taken.”

As with many artists from the 1980s Noritop is well aware of the recent resurrection of that decade’s music. A number of bands are citing bands such as STEREO as influences and their music is gaining a whole new, younger audience.

“I love this resurrection. Fashion is cyclical and always will be, it seems to me that people have this vital need to go forward but also to look back, to listen to sounds that are quite current from the return of vintage synths on many records of the years 2010.”

You can find out more about Thierry and Stereo In Solo via his website, as well as Facebook, and Twitter pages.

Seven And Counting

Seven And Counting on Taking Off With Spitfire - Showcasing Local Talent from the South Holland area

Croation based Seven And Counting are yet again something completely different! Brand new and with only a small amount of material, at Spitfire we think that the band is going to go from strength to strength and couldn't be happier to bring them to you. Currently working on their first album the band consists of:

  • Boško Colić - Drums
  • Neno Grabić - Electric Guitar
  • Šime Radulić - Electric Guitar
  • Ante Paleka - Bass Guitar
  • Josip Milković - Saxophone
  • Daria Baković - Vocals
  • Lucija Grabovac - Vocals
  • Matea Ljubanović - Vocals
  • Vinko Baković - Guitar, Vocals, Music, & Lyrics!

Our music is a mixture of different genres and influences, most likely because we are a large band and every one of us has brought something on his/her own. With rock music as a foundation, we place layers of compatible styles and our sound is sometimes more bluesy or pop, or country but, basically, it all comes down to R’n’R! It’s like a pizza, actually. No matter what you put on it, pizza is always pizza...

You can find out more about Seven And Counting via their Facebook, and Twitter pages.

Remember, we're always looking for fresh local talent to broadcast and promote, if you want to be involved you can provide us with some information about yourself as well as uploading a demo here.
