Taking Off With Spitfire is our new weekly show in which we showcase the very best local talent from the South Holland area. It broadcasts weekly on a Thursday evening at 19:00, and is repeated the following Sunday at 18:00. Want to be on the show? We're always looking for fresh local talent to broadcast and promote, you can provide us with some information about yourself as well as uploading a demo here.
This weeks show is a little bit special, as we will be featuring four different great acts, so there is bound to be something new for you to discover! You will be able to hear a little bit about local musician Matthew James Aylett, local band Two Point Zero, local musician Tommy Loose, and the West End Musical "All Or Nothing".
Matthew James Aylett
Born and bred in Spalding, Matthew’s style of music is influenced by growing up in the South Lincolnshire area. His “rootsy” yet “country inflected” sound has a real Bob Dylan feel, yet Matthew is able to use his liking of the songs that were written by Noel Gallagher of Oasis to create his own original sound. If you meet Matt, he has the look of a real Indie music star and his music reflects this.
Described by “Super World Indie Tunes” (SWIT) as ‘Matthew James “A-List”’ rather than Matthew James Aylett, he has already made his mark on the Indie music scene and is really set to make a massive impact over the coming months and years. The quote from SWIT says it all “A milestone, A signpost, A Calling Card From Serendipity” – high praise indeed and Sound Of Spitfire agree!
Two Point Zero
A four-piece band based in Spalding, Lincolnshire, formed in 2010. The group comprise of the following members:
- James Stamp: Vocals & Guitar
- Robert Howman: Drums & Backing Vocals
- Stuart Carr: Guitar
- Matt Roberts: Bass
Taking their inspiration from bands such as Pearl Jam, Incubus, Matchbox Twenty, The Cult and The Foo Fighters, the guys use their individual influences to create catchy, hooky rock pop tunes and they pride themselves on their grooving riffs and powerful chords.
In 2012 they released their first album called ‘Only In Colour’ which along with the title song (Only In Colour) featured the track ‘Headlights’. In 2018, the guys release their second album and will hopefully return to playing the live gigs.
Two Point Zero are a “proper” musicians band, great sound, great ethos and Sound Of Spitfire are proud to promote them – Here’s hoping for a return to gigging!
Originally from Wisbech, Tommy was schooled in Spalding and now resides in South Holland… when he is home! Tommy, is one of our success stories. After successful tours around the globe, Tommy brings his unique brand of music back to South Lincolnshire… not only that but he brings his Harp Guitar! Tommy has successfully launched four albums to date:
- Nearly Unique
- Carry The Unfixable
- (I'm Gonna) Tell God Everything
- The Antique Factory
Tommy describes himself as a Guitarist, a Vocalist and a “various otherist” – an understatement… Tommy is a Musical Polymoth…. Listen and enjoy!
The All Or Nothing Musical
Written, produced and directed by the famous actress Carol Harrison, this is a musical biopic of The Small Faces, in particular, Steve Marriott, the enigmatic lead singer, writer and guitarist of The Small Faces. Even if you weren’t a fan of MoDs and MoD music, I guarantee that you will enjoy this theatrical production. The Small Faces band are played by:
- Sam Pope (Young Steve Marriott): Lead Vocals & Guitar
- Stanton Wright (Ronnie Lane): Bass Guitar & Backing Vocals
- Stefan Edwards (Kenney Jones): Drums & Backing Vocals
- Alex Gold (Ian McLagan): Hammond Organ & Backing Vocals
On Taking Off With Spitfire, it may seem strange that we chose to feature a group of guys who are having a run in the West End but, being fortunate enough to chat to them, they are musicians in their own right that need promoting as much as the local guys.
Not taking away anything from their performance in “All or Nothing” the individual musicians are all at the beginning of fantastic careers, Stefan and Stanton, aside from being great musicians have also a full CV of theatrical productions ranging from Shakespeare to modern day plays. Sam fronts a 9-piece group that regularly honours corporate events and weddings, plus he can also be found doing solo and acoustic sets in various pubs, clubs and bars. Alex is a self-described “musical polymath” who not only plays the keyboard in the play but is an established musician playing just about everything that you can get a note from, recently back from a tour of Europe, now minus a beard for the play, Alex is keen to promote his own brand of music.
It may seem weird to promote four guys who are playing in the West End, but after asking one of the cast “So what’s the next thing when the show closes?”… The chap (no names) candidly said “Well, it will be back to pulling pints”
A fickle world showbiz… one day, the West End… the next Pulling Pints…. Well if the Sound of Spitfire can help promote these guys and the rest of the cast we certainly will… All OR Nothing!!
Remember, we're always looking for fresh local talent to broadcast and promote, if you want to be involved you can provide us with some information about yourself as well as uploading a demo here.
